Description

The Office of Civic Engagement works across campus to emphasize university-community partnerships that are collaborative, participatory, empowering, systemic, and transformative. The goal is to broaden opportunities for civic and community engagement in our academic programs and to encourage our graduates to adopt a civic minded approach in their personal and professional lives.

We are launching two new exciting opportunities to increase access to faculty-led service-learning experiences and student-led community projects. Funded at $500 each, students and faculty can apply for funding to support their projects for engaging students in the community. Students have a variety of interests - we know that community-based, civically-engaged learning experiences have a high impact on students' sense of belonging, retention, and graduation rates! These experiences are valuable and help create civically-minded graduates!

Some examples of student-led projects might include hosting voter registration events, building community gardens, organizing cultural events, or designing/hosting student leadership workshops. Faculty-led service-learning projects connected to courses at Chico State might include organizing trips to study our local watershed, partnering with a non-profit organization to do research, or hosting a civic expo to help students learn about the legislative process from organizations like the California Legislative Women's Caucus.

Help support projects that help provide students real-world opportunities to engage in our communities.

Support Civic Engagement on Campus!

There are many ways to participate in our communities that are helpful, supportive and purposeful. The Office of Civic Engagement wants to empower students to be engaged in all aspects of community including service learning opportunities while in college, internships with political efforts, learning about legislative advocacy, giving back to student's home communities and more.

Support for our work means that you are supporting the development of citizens who value involvement and engagement with their communities.

Why are donations necessary?

Your support, whether $5 or $50, will help us ensure more students participate in civic and community engagement efforts through two Office of Civic Engagement funding programs.
