Description

The 2022 APAHE conference will be held in Long Beach, CA on April 7–8, 2022. Please help us send 4 students and 4 staff/faculty to the conference and foster the next generation of API leaders!

The Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE) Conference is a local, in-state, professional development opportunity that was established to enhance the educational opportunities of Asian and Pacific American students. The 2-day conference allows students the opportunity to be in a space where they are no longer the minority. They will listen to Keynote speakers who look like them, who references things they can relate to (rice, elders, the importance of taking off one’s shoe in the home) and feel connected in a way they often don’t on campus. The students will attend workshops geared for API students to teach them the importance of shattering the “Model Minority Myth”, shattering glass ceilings, and shattering the fears standing in the way of their own successes.

How will donations be used?

This year, we have a target amount for this campaign of $6000. This will cover registration, travel and lodging cost, and meals for students not provided by conference.

Conference Student Attendees need the following:

  • $10 donation provides breakfast for a student.
  • $30 donation provides dinner for a student.

Donation milestones that supports our students:
  • $100 covers cost of rental van from Chico to the Sacramento airport.
  • $250 covers round-trip air-line tickets for a student.
  • $375 covers the conference registration for a student.
  • $500 covers lodging for 2 students.

Asian Pacific Islander Council (APIC)-APAHE Conference Campaign Creating Life Long Leaders!

Chico State enrolls over 17,000 students each semester but only 5% identify as Asian and Pacific Islander students. As a minority group within the underrepresented minorities (URM) at Chico State, many Asian Pacific Islander (API) students are feeling disconnected and invisible, resulting in a lower 4-year graduation rate of 26.4% when compared to the university average of 33%.

Your donation would be giving API students the opportunity to experience an intentional conference geared at teaching API students the importance of shattering the “Model Minority Myth”, shattering glass ceilings, and shattering the fears standing in the way of their own successes. Prior attendees returned to campus and became presidents of student organizations, paraprofessional leaders on campus, and some progressed into graduate school. Thus, join us in empowering our API students towards academic success and life long leadership roles!

Why are donations necessary?

The Asian Pacific Islander Council does not receive any funds from any departments to support our API students and staff/faculty to attend this conference. API students and some staff/faculty who are selected to attend the conference will benefit from this campaign.
