Description
Society of Plastics Engineers students are developing novel bioplastics that will break down completely when used for cups, lids, bags, straws, packaging, etc. This impact is already known on campus where we have competed and won our research competitions against Cal Berkeley, San Jose State, and San Francisco State. We want to take this research and introduce it to plastic manufacturing companies in order to manufacture this incredible material at a large scale.
How will donations be used?
This donation will be used for a new plastic pellet dryer ($500), bio-plastic materials ($1500), filabot filament sensor ($789), 3d printer filament ($500), new uniforms ($300), and travel ($500).
Support Research in Bio-Plastics!
We get students interested in research as well as provide them the opportunity to get a great job for when they graduate. Research experience is amazing to have especially when you are looking into pursuing a master's or doctorate degree, and you will be a more well-rounded student. We compete at competitions where we get to showcase our work and also get to represent the university in the best way. Overall, we offer tremendous opportunities to all participants. We are equipping students so that by the time they graduate, they'll have companies begging for them to work for them.
Why are donations necessary?
We strive to educate students on the alternatives of using bioplastics over the use of virgin petrochemical-based plastics. This will develop into a cultural change where people over time will decide to use bioplastic products more than virgin petrochemical-based plastics. This is the most sustainable and realistic approach to making strides in today's popular culture.
