Support STEM students through the HSI STEM-Engineering MEP Endowment!

Funds raised will be matched "Dollar for Dollar" through the HSI grant and will enable us to continue to support Undergraduate Research Opportunities for students, scholarships, and be used to cover conference registration, hotel fees, and transportation costs for STEM Conference attendance.

Feedback from students that have previously benefited from these opportunities include:

“The people I met there inspired me to consider grad school…I graduated CSU Chico with a BS in Civil Engineering and am now about to graduate from the University of South Florida with a MS in Environmental Engineering. - MA”

“The skills and knowledge I learned from this specific REU experience were the most fulfilling since it is the most applicable to my current work-study… it has indirectly provided me a preliminary foundation and skills to pursue a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering emphasizing in biomaterials and Imaging. - RV"

“I was extremely fortunate to be granted the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research. This allowed me to see materials I had learned in classroom, and more, applied in the real world. I am very happy, and very excited to say that I will be joining UCLA’s Civil Engineering MS program. I owe this, and all my other successes during my time at CSU Chico to the MESA Engineering Program/Chico STEM Connections Collaborative Program, all the resources they have to offer, and the community they have built for students like myself. – AE”

Description

The MESA Engineering Program (MEP) offers participating engineering, computer science, and construction management students a variety of services to assist them with navigating college life and engineering courses. Services include academic assistance, paid summer undergraduate research opportunities, professional development, employment opportunities, financial aid and scholarship application assistance, peer mentoring, as well as access to the MEP/CSC² Engineering Student Study Center. We are working to establish a permanent base of funding to institutionalize critical services for Hispanic and low-income students in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management. Funds will directly support students in areas such as Undergraduate Research Opportunities, Scholarships, and attending STEM Conferences.

How will donations be used?

Funds raised will be used to institutionalize support and program services for students. This includes Undergraduate Research Opportunities for students with $5,000 stipends, scholarship support ranging from $500-$2,500. Funds will also be used to cover conference registration, hotel fees, and transportation costs for STEM Conference attendance.

Why are donations necessary?

Donated funds will be used to ensure that STEM students will be supported for years to come through the creation of the HSI STEM-Engineering - MEP Endowment. Due to the awarding of a Department of Education HSI Title V Grant, there will be a “Dollar for Dollar” match of donated funds (up to $100,000 annually)! This means, every dollar that is raised is doubled! The goal of the five-year grant funding is to create a $1 Million Dollar Endowment that directly funds student success!
