Description
METX is an interdisciplinary collaboration that brings students together from Computer Animation & Game Development, Journalism & Public Relations, and Media Arts, Design & Technology. METX is a one-of-a-kind experience in the CSU system where a student team develops storytelling projects using immersive technology such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and video on behalf of a client.
How will donations be used?
Teaching immersive technology across academic programs has some unique financial challenges:
- Travel: METX often works with off-campus clients, which means travel costs. Depending on the client, travel expenses can be renting a university bus or students paying for gas to drive to a client’s location.
- Technology: We use anything from VR headsets, lighting, audio equipment, and smartphones to test our products. Technology is constantly changing. We do what we can to avoid passing technology expenses onto students in the class. Each donation can help the METX Collaboration in many ways: $25 will help cover a student’s gas to get to the client’s filming site. $200 will purchase a VR headset like the Oculus Go. $1,000 will help purchase a VR 3D microphone.
Support METX!
METX teams developed a virtual reality tour of Sierra Nevada’s original brewery where Pale Ale was first created. We’ve also brought Red Bluff Round-Up's favorite bull, Red Rock, to life using augmented reality and we’ve created an educational game played on a smartphone for Bidwell Mansion. Along with VR and AR, the METX team creates a variety of video content including documentaries and 360-degree videos. While creating these projects METX students learn hands-on skills with industry technology, how to work effectively across disciplines just as they will post-graduation, and develop creative content that will help them stand apart as job candidates.
Why are donations necessary?
The METX team tries a variety of fundraising approaches throughout the year to help with course costs and avoid passing these costs onto students for things like technology and travel.
