About our club

The National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a student organization within the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CMSD) major. We are dedicated to supporting individuals with speech, language, and hearing differences while preparing students for careers in speech-language pathology and audiology.

Our mission is to foster professional development, advocacy, and community engagement by providing students with opportunities to learn, lead, and give back.

Each year, we:

  • Host a free continuing education conference for local speech-language pathologists (SLPs)
  • Partner with advocacy groups to support individuals with communication differences within our community
  • Provide networking, leadership, and service opportunities for CMSD students

Through these efforts, we strive to create a stronger, more inclusive community for both professionals and the individuals we serve.

How we'll use your gift

We want to expand what we are able to do throughout the school year! Your donation will directly support the eventual creation of the CSU Chico NSSLHA Endowment Fund, which will provide annual scholarship opportunities for CMSD students who are members of NSSLHA. It takes a substantial amount of funds to be able to create a scholarship account; this fund will be established over time, and donations will be gathered and set aside until we meet the minimum requirements to open the endowment.

What is an endowment fund?

An endowment fund is a permanent financial resource that is invested to generate ongoing support for a specific cause. Instead of being spent all at once, the money donated is carefully invested, and a portion of the earnings is used each year to fund scholarships. This ensures that the fund can grow over time and continue providing financial support for students year after year.

Support National Student Speech Language Hearing Association

With your support, we can ensure that students who have worked tirelessly to serve others will, in turn, be supported themselves. As future speech-language pathologists and audiologists, NSSLHA members dedicate their time to learning how to help individuals with speech, language, and hearing differences — advocating for those who may struggle to communicate, supporting inclusive practices, and preparing to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Your generosity today will create opportunities for years to come, ensuring that financial barriers never stand in the way of those who are committed to making a difference.

Together, we can shape the future of speech-language pathology and audiology!

Why we need donations

Our goal is to build a sustainable, long-term fund that will allow us to award scholarships annually, whether as one larger scholarship or multiple smaller awards, depending on available funds and the needs of our students.

For many students in the CMSD major, the journey to becoming a speech-language pathologist or audiologist comes with financial challenges — tuition, clinical materials, a professional wardrobe, and graduate school application fees all add up. By creating this scholarship, we can lighten the financial burden for our dedicated NSSLHA members, allowing them to focus on their education, gain valuable hands-on experiences, and pursue their passion for helping others.
